It is the time of year when we are beginning to feel the warmth of the sun again and begin decorating outdoors.
The birds are singing and the flowers are beginning to bloom. I know I tend to become a bit stagnant during the cold winter months. When the sun finally begins to warm me up again, I live to get outside.
But how do we create the perfect outdoor area?
Let’s examine some of the best solutions for decorating outdoors.
Common Problem Decorating Outdoors #1 Location
If you are planning to use a seating area, you will want to find an area that is fairly level or flat. It is no fun to try and sit in a chair that is wobbling back and forwards or trying to tip over. If you are not a fan of umbrellas consider if there will be any shade present in your area or will you be in direct sunlight. During the different times of the day, the area will change so make sure you examine the area in the time of day in which you are most likely to use the area. Once you have chosen the perfect location for your area you can begin looking for inspiration. Look to your surroundings. I find that the beauty God has provided us naturally is a great place to start looking for color inspiration.
Common Problem Decorating Outdoors #2 Perfect Furniture
The furniture will be in an area that will be exposed to many different elements from the sun, rain, hail and even snow. This is where practical design comes into play. Choose furniture that fits your budget and durable enough to handle the elements. There are a variety of different materials to choose from. My favorite type of outdoor furniture is wrought iron. The iron is heavy making it very durable. Due to its strength, it can be left outside to withstand the elements. There are a variety of styles and colors available to choose from.
Common Problem Decorating Outdoors #3 Bring The Inside Out
Once you have chosen your furniture you may decide to purchase some cushions to go on your new furniture. There is a variety of outdoor fabrics that are suitable for use in many different colors. Look for color inspiration again from the flowers in the surrounding area to be used. The same design techniques are used for this sitting area as you would use in your interior. Chose patterns of different sizes will allow them to work together and not fight against one another. Picking colors that complement one another as well will give a feeling of harmony. Areas that are in direct sunlight can be difficult to entertain. There are many types of umbrellas that can help to shade your area as well as add color and pattern.
